Ronald McDonald House

Our Sunday school class had been looking for a community service project over the summer.  We wanted something where our kids could help too since everyone has kids and so we could teach them how to help people in our community and be a good Christian example for our children.  We wanted something we could do monthly.  In September we started volunteering for the Ronald McDonald house.  We signed up to bring a meal on the 3rd Saturday of each month.

Below is a write up about the Ronald McDonald house I found to explain more of what it is....

Studies show that when loved ones are close by, sick or injured children heal better and faster. That’s why our community is rolling up its sleeves to make a difference—and you can be a part of it.
The 3,200 square feet Ronald McDonald Family Room® will be located on the third floor of the Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas. It’s designed to provide respite and relaxation during an otherwise stressful situation, while keeping loved ones near their ill child. While private bedrooms are part of the overall design, communal sitting areas, a large dining room and family play area are included to encourage bonding and discussions between families as they build their network of support.
These spaces will be utilized on a regular basis but also for several special occasions for the families throughout the year to celebrate milestones, holidays, and more!
Andrea has been great organizing everything.  She has an internet sign up sheet so everyone in our Sunday school can sign up to bring an item, than we all meet down in the lobby at 6:15 on that SAturday.

In October me and Mike signed up to bring dessert.  We baked cupcakes and cookies with the kids and talk to them about what we were doing and who would be eating them and why were doing this.  We packed them in the car to bring them to the hospital. Unfortunately the kids fell asleep so they didn't get to help deliver....so I stayed in the car with snoring boys and Mike brought the cupcakes and cookies upstairs.  He had to make two trips :)

Mike took a picture of our desserts in the kitchen area.
Looking forward to continuing to do this every Month.

In November we are bringing a meal on the third Saturday - which is November 16th - AND we have volunteered to provide the first Holiday meal at the house - Thanksgiving.  We aren't sure if we're cooking or having somewhere like Harps cook and than just deliver and set up, but either way we are excited about the opportunity of providing a meal for those in need on the Thanksgiving Holiday.
